HP MULTI JET FUSION (MJF)

OVERVIEW

Multi Jet Fusion is a 3D printing method the Hewlett-Packard (HP) company developed. It creates parts additively thanks to a multi-agent printing process.

The final parts exhibit high-quality surface finishes, high feature resolution, and more consistent mechanical properties compared to selective laser sintering (SLS) processes and even more so with FDM technology. Multi Jet Fusion uses an inkjet array to apply fusing and detailing agents over a bed of nylon powder, united by heating elements to form a solid layer.

BENEFITS OF USING MJF 3D PRINTING

The Multi Jet Fusion process is one of the fastest 3D printing technologies for plastics. Compared to FDM or SLS technologies, HP Multi Jet Fusion can theoretically 3D print up to 10x faster. Thanks to this batch orders of 100-5000 pieces are easily available.

Multi Jet Fusion can create intricate parts without the need for support. The self-supporting powder needs no supporting structure and works equally well for fully functional prototypes or end-use parts. Nylon 12 plastic is excellent for novice designers and experienced professionals because of its high accuracy and low cost. It is more durable and flexible than resin parts printed with SLA and more detailed than plastic parts printed with FDM.

No matter how complex your designs are, polyamide is an excellent and versatile choice. The PA 12 material used by Multi Jet Fusion technology is fine-grained, resulting in parts with higher density and lower porosity than parts produced with Laser Sintering (SLS). That feature also makes PA 12 for MJF the ideal choice when you need more detailed surface resolution or thinner walls. It is well suited for sharp textures, embossing, engraving, or labels.
